این دوربین با طراحی كوچك و سبك مدلی جدید در سری آماتور دوربینهای كانن است كه كاركرد سریع و آسان آنان مشهور است. حسگر جدید ١٨ میلیون پیكسلی CMOS و پردازندهی DIGIC 4 این دوربین از اصلیترین امكانات آن هستند. همچنین امكاناتی مانند صبط ویدئوی Full HD، عكاسی با نمایش زنده روی LCD (حالت Live View)، سیستم فلاش بیسیم، و LCD چرخشی ٣ اینچی، در این مدل تعبیه شدهاند. این مدل جدیدترین امكانات سیستم EOS را در یك بدنهی كمحجم ارائه میكند.
لنز همراه این كیت، EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS II است. برای پاسخگویی به نیازهای عكاسان، این نسخه از این لنز زوم استاندارد دارای فناوری ثتبیتكنندهی اپتیكی تصویر كانن بوده و همچنین حجم و وزن كم نسخهی قبلیش (EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6) را حفظ نموده است. فناوری تثبیتكنندهی آن ثبت دستی تصاویر (بدون سهپایه) را با سرعتهای شاتر تا چهار پله كندتر از حالت ممكن امكانپذیر میكند. این لنز از ١١ عنصر در ٩ گروه ساخته شده و از یك عنصر عدسی غیركروی برای تصحیح پدیدهی آبراسیون جهت دستیابی به كیفیت تصویر بالا در طول دامنهی زوم، و یك دیافراگم دایرهای برای بازنمایی زیبای پشتزمینههای ناواضح (فوكوسنشده - بوكه) استفاده میكند. این لنز بدون اینكه اندازه، وزن یا قیمت بالایی داشته باشد، در هنگام نیاز به سرعتهای شاتر كندتر، شرایط را برای ثبت تصاویر بهتر مهیا میكند.
